Choose Seven Sisters if…
- You want the classic “rolling white cliffs” photo, like the view from Seaford Head.
- You want to walk on the beach right under the cliffs (Birling Gap).
- You’d like to add Brighton’s seafront and the Royal Pavilion to the same day.
- You love film locations: the area has appeared in films including Atonement and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.
Choose Dover if…
- You want to see France across the Channel.
- You’re interested in wartime history, such as the Fan Bay Deep Shelter tunnels.
- You want to pair the cliffs with Dover Castle or Canterbury.
Getting there from London
Both take roughly two hours by car. For Dover, trains run from London St Pancras to Dover Priory, then it’s about a 40-minute walk to the National Trust visitor centre. For the Seven Sisters, trains run to Seaford or Eastbourne with a bus onwards, or you can take a direct coach day tour from London Victoria.
Our verdict
For first-time visitors who want the most dramatic scenery and easy beach access, the Seven Sisters edge it, especially combined with Brighton. Dover is the better pick for history lovers and Channel views.
